Character & Leadership

The following programs help youth to become responsible caring citizens, to develop leadership skills, and to engage in decision making, planning, and contributing to their Club and community:

  • TEENSupreme Keystone Clubs

Keystone Clubs are small group leadership development clubs for kids ages 14 – 18 that are chartered at each individual Club location. The Keystone Clubs elect officers, chose their own activities and plan and implement community service projects. With their national charter, a Keystone Club can participate in regional and national Keystone Conferences.

  • National Youth of the Year

This program, which is sponsored by The Reader’s Digest Foundation, is designed to promote and recognize service to Club and community, academic performance, and contributions to family and spiritual life. Each Club selects a Youth of the Year who then goes on to the state competition. State winners receive a plaque and enter the regional competition. Regional winners receive a $5,000 scholarship and enter a national competition held in Washington, D.C. The National Youth of the Year receives an additional $10,000 scholarship and is installed by the President of the United States.

  • Torch Club

A small-group leadership development program, the Torch Club program is sponsored by Staples and is targeted for youth ages 11 – 13. Members elect their officers, and plan and implement their own activities and community service projects. Like the Keystone Clubs, each Torch Club receives a charter from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
